The rafters at the Purple Palace will be adding two more individual state championship banners after Louis Smith and Mackenna Webster both captured state championships today at Ford Field in Detroit. Louis Smith (175) defeated Seth Harvey of Lowell 6-5 in the finals to complete a perfect season at 61-0. Mackenna Webster (145) pinned Brynna Alwell of Allen Park just before time expired in the third period to claim the state championship and finish her senior season at 42-1. Four Wildcats earned Division II All-State honors by placing today: Ethan Moreland (144) finished 3rd, Jak Monroe (138) & Braylon Faile (165) both finished 4th, and Jaxon Smith (190) took 7th.
